Terms of Service

Last updated: May 22, 2026  ·  Effective date: May 22, 2026

Welcome to Bon Appli (the “Service,” “App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Bon Appli is a meal-planning, recipe-management, pantry-tracking, and grocery-list application offered as a progressive web app at bonappli.pages.dev and through any successor domains.

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form a binding agreement between you (“you,” “your,” or “User”) and Aaron McLaughlin, an individual operating Bon Appli as a sole proprietor based in Minnesota, United States (the “Operator”). If the Operator later transfers the Service to a limited liability company or other legal entity, that entity will assume these Terms and continue to be bound by them, and references to “Operator” will mean that entity.

By creating an account, signing in, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Statement (incorporated by reference). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Bon Appli. If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use the Service only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

You also represent that you are not prohibited from receiving the Service under the laws of the United States or any other applicable jurisdiction.

2. Your account

To use most features you must create an account, typically by signing in with a third-party identity provider such as Google. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly at the contact address in Section 16 if you suspect unauthorized access.

You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it current. You may have only one account at a time unless we expressly authorize otherwise.

3. What Bon Appli does

Bon Appli helps you save, organize, and cook recipes; plan meals; track pantry inventory; generate grocery lists; and store cooking notes, photos, and history. Specific features include, without limitation: recipe import from URLs (including via third-party readers, AMP unwrapping, and structured-data parsers); AI-assisted recipe extraction and pantry photo analysis; cloud sync; offline (local) journaling; and a shared web share target for mobile devices.

We may add, change, or remove features at any time. Some features may rely on third-party services that change behavior or pricing outside our control.

4. License to use the Service

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to access and use Bon Appli for your personal, non-commercial household use. All right, title, and interest in the Service, including all software, design, text, graphics, and trademarks (other than your User Content), remain with the Operator and its licensors.

5. Your content and license to us

Your Content. “User Content” means any content you submit to the Service, including recipes, recipe imports, meal plans, pantry items, grocery lists, cook notes, photos (such as pantry scans), tags, favorites, and any other materials. You retain ownership of your User Content.

License to operate the Service. You grant the Operator a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to host, store, reproduce, adapt, transmit, display, and process your User Content solely to operate, maintain, secure, improve, and provide the Service to you (including syncing across your devices, generating consolidated grocery lists, displaying recipes, and processing photos through third-party AI providers to extract structured information). This license ends when you delete the relevant User Content or your account, except as needed to complete in-progress operations, comply with law, resolve disputes, or maintain reasonable backups for a limited period.

Your responsibilities. You represent and warrant that you have all rights necessary to submit your User Content and that it does not violate any law or any third party's rights. You are solely responsible for your User Content and for verifying that any recipe you import is one you have the right to save for personal use.

Recipes from other sites. Bon Appli can fetch and parse recipes from third-party websites for your personal use. Recipes and other content on third-party sites may be subject to copyright. You are responsible for respecting those rights. Do not redistribute imported content publicly through Bon Appli, and do not use the Service to scrape or republish third-party content at scale.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this Section, and we may remove User Content that we reasonably believe violates these Terms.

7. AI-assisted features

Bon Appli uses third-party AI providers to extract information from recipe URLs (for example, when structured data is missing) and to analyze pantry photos. These features are convenience tools and may make mistakes. Outputs may be incomplete, inaccurate, or misclassified.

Do not rely on Bon Appli to identify allergens, ingredient safety, expiration dates, dietary suitability, or nutritional content. Always read original recipes and product labels, and consult a qualified professional for medical, dietary, or food-safety questions. You are responsible for what you cook and consume.

8. Beta features and changes

Some features may be labeled beta, experimental, or preview. They are provided “as is,” may change or be discontinued, and may have additional risks. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Service at any time, including features you depend on. Where reasonable, we will provide notice through the Service or via email.

9. Subscriptions and payment

Bon Appli is currently offered free of charge. If we introduce paid features, we will publish updated terms (including pricing, billing cadence, and refund policy) before charging you, and your continued use of paid features will require your acceptance of those terms.

10. Third-party services

The Service integrates third-party services, including but not limited to:

Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of third parties, including any changes they make that affect Bon Appli.

11. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including without limitation the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and quiet enjoyment.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free from harmful components, or that any data you store will always be available or accurate. You are responsible for maintaining your own backups of important content.

Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot be limited under applicable law.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will the Operator be liable to you for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, or business interruption, arising out of or relating to your use of the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

The Operator's total cumulative liability for all claims arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid the Operator for the Service in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD $50.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so portions of this Section may not apply to you.

13. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the Operator from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to (a) your use of the Service in violation of these Terms or the law, (b) your User Content, or (c) your violation of any third party's rights.

14. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from within the App or by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, including if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, if continued service poses a security risk, or if we discontinue the Service.

On termination, your license to use the Service ends. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including Sections 4 (ownership), 5 (license to us, for any retained backups), 11, 12, 13, 15, and 16.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service that is not resolved informally will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Hennepin County, Minnesota, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there. You and the Operator each waive any right to a jury trial in any such dispute, to the extent permitted by law.

If you have a dispute, please contact us first using the address in Section 17. We will try in good faith to resolve it before either party initiates formal proceedings.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we will notify you through the Service or by other reasonable means before it takes effect. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects when the Terms were last revised. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

18. Miscellaneous

These Terms, together with the Privacy Statement, are the entire agreement between you and the Operator regarding the Service. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later. You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent; we may assign them to a successor or affiliate (including a future LLC formed by the Operator) without restriction.

Note: This document is a starting point provided for convenience and is not legal advice. You should have it reviewed by a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction before relying on it for a public launch.
